In 2014, the Pader River Landscape concept envisaged the redesign of the Pader meadows into the Paderauenpark. Following the completion of the first phase in 2022 with the opening of the Paderkampfbahn to the Paderwiesen, including the extensive renovation of the beach volleyball courts and the construction of a new high-quality toilet facility, work will continue this week with the section from Fürstenweg to Heierswall.

This second construction phase will again be divided into three main areas: The first is the remodelling of the banks of the Pader. The canal-like character of the Pader at the level of the Paderwiesen meadows will be restructured and the banks will be flattened, while a new viewing platform and a new footbridge will lead to the water in future. The existing riparian trees will be developed into small islands.

„A varied piece of urban nature is being created here - which will offer added value for the water and its banks as well as for local recreation in the city centre: an important next building block in the further qualification of our Pader river landscape and urban development promotion," says a delighted Claudia Warnecke, Technical Councillor.

Work will continue on the new playground, the "Spielpader", at the beginning of July. The central play equipment will be supplied by the company Spielraumgestaltung Zimmer.Obst, which won last year's competition for the creative design of the central play equipment with its mill theme.

Finally, the Franz-Schwarzendahl-Weg - similar to the Maltaweg on the opposite side of the Pader - will be renovated and the Paderauenpark will be supplemented with new recreational areas, a boules court and seating steps in the embankment to the Paderwiese. Work on this is expected to begin in the autumn.

The work on the riverbank and playground is expected to be completed by September 2024, while the renovation of the Franz-Schwarzendahl-Weg is likely to continue until spring 2025.
